Hydrocarbon Scenario in Rajasthan

  • • Activities related to Oil and Gas exploration began in Barmer-Sanchore Basin in last two decades and Rajasthan has emerged on countrys Oil and Gas map with the discovery of Mangla Oil field with the efforts of National and International companies. Presently, Oil, Gas Exploration is being undertaken in 21 Blocks of Rajasthan. Two Blocks are offered by Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, New Delhi for Oil & Gas exploration and production under National Exploration Licensing Policy, (NELP) ninth round by bidding. As per estimates 480 million tonnes Oil in-place reserves (3.5 Billion Barrels) have been proved in 25 discovered fields of Barmer-Sanchore Basin. Out of these 5 fields shall be categorized in commercial. Rest of the fields shall come into production after approval of Field Development Plans by Government of India.
  • • Rajasthan state is also bestowed with 3149 Million tonnes (Approx.) of Lignite Coal reserves in Barmer-Sanchore and Bikaner-Nagaur basin, out of which around 1500 Million tonnes of reserves have been categorized as deep-seated resources, which are not economical to mine with the conventional method of opencast mining. In UCG Coal is burned inside the earth under controlled conditions by injecting Oxidants and Syn gas (Synthetic Gas) is produced .Syn gas is used as feedstock in fertilizer, power generation and petrochemicals. Govt. of Rajasthan has reserved an area (1691.75 Sq, kms) for Coal Gasification purpose in Barmer -Sanchore Basin.
  • • Presently, 7 to 7.8 MMSCMD Natural gas is being produced from Jaisalmer Basin by Oil India & ONGC and in future the gas production would increase by many fold. At present Jamnagar-Loni pipeline (JLPL) of GAIL India is passing from Rajasthan catering LPG need of State through Jaipur-Ajmer tap-off points. In addition to JLPL, HVJ pipe lines are also passing near-by. Another gas trunk pipeline (1670 Kilometer) having design capacity of 30 MMSCMD is proposed to pass from Mehsana–Palanpur–Abu Road-Sirohi-Nasirabad-Sikar-Jhunjhunu-Rajgarh-Sirsa to Bhatinda with spur lines to Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Jaipur, Alwar & Rohtak is due to authorisation from PNGRB and it will cover all the major cities and major towns along DMIC . This pipeline will provide the back bone for the gas net work in state.
  • • Rajasthan State Petroleum Corporation limited a subsidiary of Rajasthan State Mines and Mineral Limited was incorporated under Company Act,1956 on 10th July,2008 and the certificate of Business commencement has been obtained on 27th November, 2008. Based on business plan prepared by Indian School of Petroleum, New Delhi and report of the Committee constituted for Development of Oil & Petroleum Sector in the State, Corporation shall prepare road map for the activities to be undertaken in planned manner.
